Labels & Trackers

Organize counters with your own labels and let TapTally auto-classify web traffic into trackers.

TapTally gives you two ways to organize counters: labels, which you assign yourself, and trackers, which TapTally detects automatically. Labels are for your taxonomy; trackers are for making sense of web-traffic counters.

Labels

A label is a free-text tag you attach to a namespace or a counter to categorize it. Labels are identical in both places.

Adding & editing labels

  • On creation — the Create Namespace and Create Counter forms both have a Labels section. Type a label and press Enter or select Add; each becomes a removable chip. Duplicate labels are ignored.
  • Later — open a namespace or counter and use the pencil icon on the Labels card to add or remove labels inline, then Save.

Common examples used throughout the app: production, backend, critical, monitoring, us-west.

Filtering by labels

Both the Namespaces list and the Counters list show a Filter by Labels multi-select once any labels exist:

  • All Labels clears the filter.
  • Selecting one or more labels narrows the list to items that carry all of the chosen labels (an AND match).

In lists, an item displays up to two label chips; any extras collapse into a +N chip whose tooltip spells out the rest.

Trackers

A tracker is a category TapTally assigns to a counter automatically, based on its key. Trackers turn a wall of raw counters into recognizable groups without any manual tagging.

The built-in Web Traffic profile classifies counters produced from ingress access logs (see the Log Collector deployment guide):

Tracker Counts Unit
Page Visits Requests per path requests
Response Codes Responses per HTTP status responses
HTTP Methods Requests per method (GET, POST, …) requests
Hosts Requests per host requests
Custom Counters Anything not matched above taps

Working with trackers

On the All Counters list, once classified counters exist you get extra controls:

  • A Tracker chip row — All plus one chip per detected tracker. Click a chip to show only that tracker's counters.
  • A tracker badge on each counter card, showing which tracker it belongs to.
  • A Group by tracker toggle that regroups the grid under tracker headings, each with an icon and a count.
